your brain is the key to your well-being

Our thoughts and actions are controlled by different areas in our brains. Understanding how these areas function and communicate with each other is the first step to improving and resolving a variety of conditions.

  • Addiction
  • Anxiety
  • Aspergerʼs Syndrome
  • Autism
  • Behavioral problems and disorders
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Compulsions
  • Conduct disorders
  • Depression
  • Epilepsy
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Head trauma
  • Bed-Wetting Syndrome
  • Insomnia and other sleep disorders
  • Migraines
  • Pain Management
  • PTSD (Post Tramatic Stress Disorder)
  • Sexual Dysfunction

The word "biofeedback" can be broken into two parts: "bio", meaning body, and "feedback", meaning information. The result is information about the body that may be used to help control physiological and behavioral conditions.

Your body and your mind respond to outside stimuli in a specific way that can become a pattern, such as how blood pressure goes up in a stressful situation or how an anxious feeling can overtake you when you are overwhelmed. When you receive immediate feedback that clearly shows you the connection between your mind and body, it is possible to train yourself to exhibit a healthy response.

Biofeedback can be used to measure heart rate, breathing, muscle activity, vascular constriction or dilation, skin temperature, perspiration, brain wave activity, and any other physiological response that can be measured. All of the conditions listed above respond positively to treatment with biofeedback and/or neurofeedback.

Services we offer

A QEEG ( Quantitative Electroencephalogram) is a diagnostic tool for picturing the brain and is often called “brain mapping” because of how accurately it displays the functions of the brain.  By allowing us to see how the brain is processing information and how effectively the different areas of the brain are communicating, a QEEG provides a starting point for the treatment method known as Neurofeedback.

Neurofeedback is a form of *biofeedback that focuses on the brain waves.  The brain communicates using electrical signals, and these electrical signals can be picked up by sensors on the scalp as part of neurofeedback.  Through practice and self-regulation, also called training, we can change our brain waves–and the brain itself–so that imbalances in the brain are eliminated without the use of drugs.

At Biofeedback Associates, we help our patients normalize their brain wave activity using an FDA-approved database of healthy patterns. By tracking the patient’s distance from the goal of the healthy pattern and by teaching the patient how to self-regulate, neurofeedback can alleviate countless brain-based symptoms and disorders.

We offer traditional counseling, with or without biofeedback. Many of the treatments we offer here at Biofeedback Associates can be combined with traditional counseling for conditions that would normally be treated with pharmaceutical products.  Anxiety and depression, for example, are two conditions that respond very well to a combination of biofeedback and counseling.
Our licensed and board certified therapists practice a wide variety of therapies, from cognitive behavioral to traditional psychotherapy, and work with couples as well as individuals.
